Cold Melon-Berry Soup - FFWD
I am back with FFWD this week! Cold-Melon Berry Soup was very nice. A "fun" and summery starter that tasted pretty good - and simple to make with only six ingredients (I didn't add the wine).
I'll probably make this dish again, but in the future I'll pay closer attention to the ginger versus sweet melon...I had a good, ripe melon and I added all the ginger right away. I should have added it gradually and taste-tested as I went along because in the end the ginger flavor was a bit too strong compared to the sweetness of the melon.
Fruit soup was a first for me...as was making melon balls. Sounds un-American (and, apparently, un-French).

I think it really needed the wine, but yours looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour soup is beautiful! Maybe the melon I started with was too ripe...it was runny from the beginning, but I subbed white grape juice for wine and maybe should have left that out? Anyway, it's fun to try new things and fresh fruit is hard to mess up...always tastes good.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI had to go out and buy a mellon-baller for this one - apparently, I have never needed to make a melon ball before. Go figure...
I felt like the ginger was a little strong too. I think I'll leave it out altogether if I decide to make it again.
ReplyDeleteYour soup looks wonderful! Gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteNot only did I not peel the ginger, I think I added too much. We
ReplyDeletedid not care for the taste at all, and was glad I only prepared one
serving. It's fun to try these recipes, Tricia and I have learned many
new and interesting techniques and ingredients since we started.
Your pictures look so inviting.
It looks great, even if it wasn't such a big hit. I left the wine out, too, and am still wondering if that was a mistake.
ReplyDeleteYour soup looks delicious! All the colors are so vibrant. Great post!
ReplyDeleteLooks cool & refreshing!!
ReplyDeleteYour presentation is lovely! I really liked the wine in it because it sweetened the soup a little. My melon was not as ripe as Dorie suggested, which is probably why my soup actually felt sweet but savory.
ReplyDeleteYour soup looks delicious. I love the color. I think I might have added too much ginger too.
ReplyDeleteGinger can be quite strong. A little goes a long way. Looks tasty.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful picture!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's SO pretty! I've never tasted melon soup. I did make a cold peach soup once, and my sister liked it so much that she had it as the appetizer at her wedding. I'd shy away from the ginger, myself...
ReplyDeleteThanks, everyone! I guess I will have to try some wine, maybe other flavorings (lemongrass sounds good), and even different fruits (some people liked raspberries instead of strawberries...and maybe a peach version like Audrey's :)). I agree it has been fun trying the different AMFT recipes.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful presentation! I think the balance of this soup can be a little tricky - some others had a problem with too much lime.
ReplyDeleteI secretly love melon balls and also jello salad :).
ReplyDeleteYour comment about melon balls being un-american and un-french totally cracked me up. Thanks for a good laugh!
