Marie-Helene’s Apple Cake - FFWD

Week 5 recipe for FFWD is Marie-Helene’s Apple Cake. Mostly apples, not very sweet, and the cake part is very moist, almost like a custard. Everyone loved it! Excellent and easy recipe.

I made 1 1/2 times the recipe for a 9 1/2-inch springform pan. I used a dark Dominican Republic rum and a wonderful vanilla that my daughter brought back from Honduras.

  1. Beautiful cake! I also thought it was more of a custard than a cake, but I still thought it was delicious and easy to make. :)

  2. It turned out beautifully! I bet it was really good with the Dominican Rum and the Honduran vanilla. I love the flavor of Mexican vanilla.

  3. That sounds really good. I like the choice of vanilla. Most people would have opted for cinnamon. I think it turned out beautifully. I thought this cake was like a claflouti.

  4. It was so nice meeting you, too! Instant friends!! I love your family pictures along the side.

I thought this cake was amazing (and very chic, too...) I happened to have an 8-inch springform, and I've just noticed there are 2 or 3 other recipes in the book for one. I could start a whole blog about 8-inch cakes!

  5. I've been baking with apples all Fall, but have yet to try this cake. Your description of it as custard-like has sold me on the fact that I need to make this one next! Beautiful job on this one, and I'm enjoying poking around your blog - ALMOST as much as I enjoyed meeting you last evening!! What fun to be at the back of the book line together. Online cooking groups are so rewarding!

  6. Hi Rebecca! It was wonderful to meet you Thursday night, what a fun evening! Thanks for dropping by to say hi at my site :)

The apple cake looks terrific! I've still got a ton of apples in my fridge so I really need to get baking before it's too late. I don't think this will be the first recipe I try from the book, but it's definitely on the list!

Oh, and I haven't forgotten to send you photos. Hopefully I'll get to it this weekend. There are some terrific ones of you and Dorie!
